OUR MISSION
Providing Mobility and Better Quality of Life to the Disabled and Neglected Youth of Mexico
Why We Do What We Do
World Access Project, Inc. is a non-profit organization created with the purpose of providing mobility and a better quality of life to the disabled and neglected youth of Mexico. We are a Christian Foundation to live and share the word of God with others whenever possible. Every member of the Board of Directors, and the leaders of the foundation are Christians to work together with the same mindset of sharing the new good of the bible.
World Access Project is located in the state of Mexico, in Jocotitlan, about one hour north of Toluca, the capitol of the state of Mexico, and 3-hours NW of Mexico City. We're located in an agricultural, indigenous, impoverished, high altitude (8,500 feet), rural area. The weather is never too hot or cold. The scenery and views are awesome. The majority of the people who live in this area are impoverished, indigenous Mazahuan & Otomi indians. They majority of them are poor, humble, and uneducated, but proud of their heritage, hard working, and dedicated to improve their quality of life.
We are Here to Help Them
Providing Wheelchairs to those in Need
Wheelchairs, crutches, walkers, canes and other mobility equipment are collected throughout the U.S., refurbished, transported to Mexico, and donated to impoverished people who can’t afford them.
The approximate cost of each wheelchair we donate is $150. Some wheelchairs in Mexico, as we have found companies that make quality, durable, dependable every-day wheelchairs, designed to be used in the rough terrain of rural Mexico.
We also refurbish used wheelchairs in Mexico that are given to us by those we donate wheelchairs to. Some wheelchairs we donate are given to us by manufacturers in Mexico. We are very thankful to IUSA, and the director Carlos Peralta, for the donation of thousands of wheelchairs, we donate on behalf of IUSA.
If you have a wheelchair that's in good condition, that needs little repair, we will gladly receive it, and give it to someone who truly needs it. We also invite volunteers who join us in Mexico, to travel with a wheelchair, crutches walker or cane, and personally donate it while on one of our trips. We are always looking for sports-type, light-weight wheelchairs, as we they are very difficult to obtain. We work with Joni & Friends, so if you have a wheelchair you'd like to donate, go to their website (http://www.joniandfriends.org/wheels-for-the-world/drop-off-locations/)put a note on the wheelchair, that it is being donated on behalf of World Access Project. Joni & Friends will donate wheelchairs to us, to donate to impoverished people with disabilities in Mexico. Thank you!

Your life will never be the same once you’ve seen someone’s face light up as they realize, now for the first time in their life, they have mobility, and you gave it to them
ANNUAL EVENTS LIKE SPORTS CAMPS AND CLINICS ARE IMPORTANT TO IMPROVE QUALITY OF LIFE
We Host Sports Camps & Clinics Throughout Mexico
Every Spring, in the coastal city of Puerto Vallarta, we annually donate wheelchairs & other mobility equipment, hold a recreation and sports clinic, enjoy a walk along the ocean with those who receive the equipment, and take them to a dolphin show.
In the Summer volunteer teams from the U.S. join us to donate wheelchairs, make someone's home accessible, enjoy the Mexico culture and food.
During the summer we host the Amigos Verdaderos Camp (True Friends), which is held close to where we live. During the five-day camp participants have the opportunity to become friends with others who use wheelchairs, share their life experiences, feelings and concerns, learn from each other, learn about the bible and develop a support system.
In the fall we host a three-day sports camp for people with disabilities who live near Mazatlan (west coast). Following the camp we hold internationally sanctioned wheelchair tennis tournament, with athletes participating from throughout the world. For more information about our 'Annual trips & News page'.
Many people we donate wheelchairs to have been stuck in their houses for years because of their disability. When they receive their first wheelchair, they have no idea what they can do with their new mobility. If we don’t teach them, they will continue to sit in their homes – using the wheelchair. During the camps both abled-bodied and disabled volunteers help expand their horizons. We start with the basic recreational, fun activities, show them how to exercise, and teach them sports they never knew they could play! Through these camps many have learned skills and develop confidence that helps them in other areas of their life. Some regularly train and compete in sports events. They have become more independent and have a better quality of life than they did before. Participants in the camps have excelled greatly in their abilities. Near our home-base 10-15 people who use wheelchairs practice tennis weekly. We have sponsored Mexican wheelchair tennis players to go to the U.S. to play in the Southwest Desert Classic, an International Wheelchair Tennis Tournament in Tucson, Arizona. Each player has returned to Mexico with a trophy! You don’t need to be an athlete or speak Spanish to volunteer. You just need to be an encourager, willing share yourself with others, and have fun! For more information about volunteering go to our 'Volunteer Application'.
Throughout the year we do sports exhibitions and presentations for schools, local governments and communities to teach them that people with disabilities have value and can have a successful, quality life. By teaching people without disabilities about people disabilities their attitudes change there is less bullying, facilities become more accessible, people with disabilities can go to school and get jobs.

Your Life will be Blessed too!
When you give a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind, and you will be blessed. Although they cannot repay you, you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous.” Luke 14:13-14
